Micol Biondi: Tell us a little about yourself, how did your career as a 3D artist start and where do you see yourself in the future?

Rogerio: My name is Rogerio, Brazilian by birth and Italian by nationality. Yes, my Instagram name Roger_io_ is real, not a stage name as many believe. I am 33 years old and I am passionate about fashion, streetwear, crypto art sneakers, contamination, and creativity.

After an experience in Geox, working in their textile-style office, I decided to resume my studies and was admitted to the Italian School of Design. My career as a 3D artist started there, with my first approach being with Rihno 3D for the design of industrial design products. This passion of mine remained until 2018 when I decided to try everything all at once by throwing myself headlong into one of the most authoritative Master’s programs in the field of computer graphics and visual effects, the Big Rock School in Roncade.

The passion that already moved me has become stronger and stronger. Now it is total love for a reality that has opened up a lot of possibilities for me and which I believe is still in need of being explored. In reality, the courses I did were just the beginning, they gave me the ideas to deepen day after day (or better day and night)! And the insight to refine more and more knowledge of software and creation methods. 3D is certainly about creativity, but also a lot of commitment and constant discipline in order to obtain the result that comes closest to my idea.

MB: What tools do you usually use to create your works?

For my creations, I usually use Maxon's Cinema 4D, for the construction of the idea and the animation. As for renderers, I use Arnold or Redshift according to the needs of the project. I am excited to use these programs because they make me evolve daily through problem-solving.

MB: When you think about a 3D drawing, what do you start from, and how do you go about creating from scratch within the digital world?

R: The creative idea is born by observing the things and facts that surround me. I look for and re-elaborate on what is happening today. I analyze the advertisements, I immerse myself in magazines and social networks. It is in these mediums that I look for the message that I want to send or the emotion I would like to arouse, and I try to give them a shape.

MB: How would you describe your style, and why?

R: I believe that my style is still evolving, not yet fully mature but constantly evolving and discovering in forms and messages. The only thing I am sure of is that I want to be here, and I want to be here with this form of communication that I am discovering more and more every day.

MB: I saw from your Instagram page that you also do Reels in 3D, explain the difference between a static image and a video of this type in terms of creation.

R: When you create a static image, the message must be condensed into a single frame. It needs to be more immediate because you only have one chance with your audience. Personally, I believe that video, thanks to sound and animation, becomes much more immersive and reflective, or celebratory, based on what I want to communicate. For this very reason, for me, videos tend to be more effective and impactful. With video you also have to build a preliminary storyboard, you are telling something that contains more communicative elements. It is certainly a richer and more complex mode, also because to make a video it takes much more time, compared to the image, both in terms of creative and operational effort, and in the rendering phases.

MB: Tell us about the projects you are working on now, I saw you created your first NFT collection, what is it about?

R: That's right, I launched my first personal NFTs on RARIBLE gold purple stone and gold green stone // explosion experience.

I use my Instagram profile primarily as a personal project that changes over time and evolves along with my inspirations and technical skills, and in recent months I have started exploring Crypto Art.

The concepts of the works that I create are based on the union and separation of cause and effect. I am fascinated by this relationship and the dissonance that is created by it. Through my NFTs, I want to create real personal sensory and visual experiences.

MB: What prompted you to enter this world?

R: The infinite possibilities of expressing oneself to be recognized outside of the old canons and artistic schemes. I have always been a forerunner in my passions, now I want to be part of this future.

MB: What do you recommend for those who would like to make a first NFT collection?

R: My advice is not to just create an image, but to try to tell a story and create emotions that stand the test of time. The risk at the other extreme is to create only digital junk, a term that - I am convinced - will be a regular part of our lives in the coming years…
