CLUB CLUBHOUSE 👋

Fictional video game character with glowing hands

NFTs and Clubhouse began gaining virality at around the same time, so it should come as no surprise that a significant part of the NFT community has gathered on this invite-only app. Despite being public on the app store, Clubhouse does have several features that make it quite decentralized. Rooms consist of people from all over the world and can be suggested to any user with a mutual connection in said room. What this results in are incredible conversations with groups of people that may never have otherwise found themselves in the same room. I’ve been on clubhouse for just about 5 months, and in that time I’ve made some incredibly meaningful connections, found jobs, friends, and so much more. In a world that is mostly stuck at home, this truly does feel like the current replacement for conferences, nightclubs, events, etc. In this article I reached out to just over a dozen leading voices within the NFT community on the Clubhouse app and asked them all the same simple question:

How has Clubhouse changed your life?

So right before Clubhouse, I got a client that called me up asking me to build him a virtual conference, and I spent three weeks (No Sleep) late-night learning Blender, Cinema 4D, and nine other programs and worked around the clock to get this mockup done and ready and I get a text message from a friend that I hadn't heard from in well probably a year-and-a-half, and he's like "bro, they made this app for you!" And I'm like, what are you talking about? I looked at it, and I opened it up for the first time and I was like "yo, this is whack." And I didn't have any more time  In my schedule to even try to figure it out. So I threw the phone on the couch now I just kept working. And then I went to sleep and woke up the next day, and I'm like what does he mean ‘made for me' right? So I'm like okay, let me look at it again.  And I'm like, 'I don't get this.'  I looked at this, and it didn't make any sense to me and I was like alright whatever.

So I started going to some rooms, and then, I found Glen Mundy's room, breakfast With Champions, and I'm like up at 5 a.m. listening to these guys talking about stories and I was like, okay, that's kind of cool.  And then I found the videographer's room, and that was the closest thing I felt like was home for me. Take in that I've been a videographer for maybe fifteen years so I've acquired quite a bit of knowledge in that space, so I was able to jump on the stage and immediately become a moderator. And I was able to answer questions and help people just because of my energy.  These people just loved how I was able to turn the room upside out down, right?.

So over the next 3 week weeks, this room has been running 24 hours, 7 days a week, and that was kind of the model that I use today for NFTS.tips, because I realized that it was possible. And after a while, I was in a Bitcoin Maximalist room at 5 am, and I heard about NFTs for the first time in my life, and I was like all right what is this stuff? I couldn't find anything that was useful, so I said that if there are no rooms, let's open this up. And that was probably the craziest thing that I ever did, right? So, I open up this room, and it ended up staying open for approximately 4,652 hours straight. And since then, I’ve dedicated my life to growing a community of people. To give them the encouragement, the wisdom, the tools of their culture, and each other.

I quit almost all of my other work apart from planning my wedding and devoted myself entirely to this community.  And it's been a rollercoaster, there have been some really amazing times and a few very tough moments. However, the zoomed-out version of what we've accomplished is two years of a 40-hour workweek in 5 months. So, thinking about how many lives we have touched. For the first three months, we weren't even a club. What's really interesting is, which I recognized from the beginning, we were on Clubhouse before Clubhouse had even a hundred thousand users, at least I was. Before a hundred thousand people were on the platform, it was super intimate. And then slowly but surely, the number of people that came out to space increased. But I quickly realized that we were in the Golden Era of Clubhouse. We got to create and establish relationships with people that are potentially going to be friends forever.

We're now growing by over 1,000 people a day. And part of me realized that when the Android market had some sort of infrastructure to put in place to help educate and onboard the new users that we would have to reset the entire audience and go back to the beginning. And that was kind of was the motivational fact for me to build out video tutorials to educate people.  So that instead of us wasting hours answering the same questions, we could just guide them through a hand-holding walkthrough video.  And get them up to speed, and if you listen to Bitbuzz, he took 8 years to get this knowledge, and we were able to acquire it and more in under 3 months. So my goal was to take that three months and to pack that into a few hours. My goal is to onboard the world into this space.

Clubhouse has been the catalyst that changed the trajectory of my career into what it is today. Previously a middle school art teacher, I have now found myself focusing full-time on NFT’s after only two weeks in the space. Not only has Clubhouse supported me in changing my career path indefinitely, it, more importantly, resulted in cultivating somewhere upwards of twenty new, deep, friendships that I value dearly. During the worst time in the history of my thirty-two years on this planet with the pandemic being our modern-day plague, the one silver lining through it all has been the relationships I’ve built on Clubhouse. The lifelong friends I’ve made on the app have been enough to persuade me to move across the country from New York to California, where I’ve so far met with at least 50 NFT creatives in the last two weeks. I will forever be grateful for the NFT community I’ve met on Clubhouse, because without each and every one of them, I would not be where I am today!

I’ve been on CH since august of 2020, where there was a maximum of 5 rooms at a time. I don’t even have a “nominated by” badge on my profile.

I was really able to carve out my community as CH was small and intimate.

Since then I’ve connected with profound individuals both professionally and in friendship from celebrities to artists in my city in Chicago. It’s given me the platform to be heard and then seen. Clubhouse enabled others to get to know me as a person & in then in return amplified the notoriety around my art tenfold. My Instagram following grew exponentially since last August at a whopping 90%.

It’s given everyone access to anything at any time - not just the average joe meeting a celebrity but the contrary - where celebs can connect with the everyday people. Collaboration is at an all-time high.

I have a Japanese language school for the Black community called @chiba.center. At first only for Chicago, but clubhouse has allowed for us to reach globally - teaching Black people

People in Europe, Africa, Asia and America - over 200 students have come through our school. We were only able to expand like this because of Clubhouse.

Clubhouse has set me up for gold ie friendships, work/collab opportunities, and information.

To be able to connect to the voices across the oceans around the globe in such a beautiful way has been the biggest surprise of mine.

To be amongst the best minds, the most creative souls, and the most generous of spirits & to be able to laugh together at the silliest of jokes, cry together at the deepest of stories and learn the new technology and all its intricacies together has been the greatest honour of mine.

To be at the leading edge of the paradigm shift that would revolutionize the art world forever and will be marked in the canon of history has been the greatest privilege of mine.

Clubhouse has reconnected me to the dreams I had for my life that I had packed away into a box called... ‘forget these dreams for they will likely not come to be in this lifetime’.

After 2 decades of pioneering conscious thought and creative expression, I became a recluse, spending most of the last several years producing music and raising my family. Coming from a place of nearly complete isolation to becoming a central figure in an evolving community of diverse creatives has been a high point in my career as a community builder and artist. It is a riveting experience to be a pioneering cultural expression, sovereignty, and evolving business models and mapping our collective evolution.

After nearly 5 months of being in Clubhouse I have witnessed a profound transformation in my life and in the lives of thousands of people who have come to our NFTS.tips community to be uplifted, educated, mentally and emotionally reconditioned, and carrying together; becoming more aware our intrinsic value as human beings while exposing of the overwhelming value we have as sovereign creative beings.

CH gave me a voice. A voice to let my thoughts out, a voice to share my ideas, and a voice to collaborate with the NFT community. CH gave me a global voice, a global stage. A voice to speak, a voice to teach, but importantly a voice with reach.

The NFT artist space on Clubhouse has rejuvenated me as an artist and an artist/tech lover. It reminds me of the early days of the internet or that time when digital SLRs dropped on the market. Clubhouse has given me the opportunity to learn alongside brilliant artists and technologists, I would have never had the opportunity to meet before.  Making amazing new friends is the cherry on top.

I joined CH in Jan 2021 on a daily basis in the NFTs.tips room and do strongly believe during lockdowns, CH was a huge driver of new entrants to the NFT space and allowed anyone with time and curiosity to learn massive amounts of information in a very short period of time.   It allowed me to engage with a large group of like-minded people that replaced the IRL event circuit I enjoyed so much.

ClubHouse has given me a chance to find a family of like-minded people willing to spend the time to listen to so many who don’t have a reach on other social media platforms. The majority of social media is a game of showing your best self, your best life edited to remove so much of what makes us human. Clubhouse is the most unedited version of myself and I believe that’s why the community we have formed around each other is so much more real.

Little did I know that March 18, 2021 would set off a revolution. It took me a day to acclimatize myself to Clubhouse and I took to it like a fish to water. Conversations on art, on NFT’s and familiarizing myself to a whole new mechanism of showcasing my art, was an education in itself. Hours turned into days and days into nights. Conversations were riveting, but the community of like-minded artists was the biggest revelation of them all. It sparked off a creative fire in me that I had never experienced before. Love, support and ideas flowed. I came in to learn about NFT’s and fell in love with the warmth of the community. I forged friendships from all over the world and my creative practice thrives and feeds off the energy and impetus of this rich and dynamic microcosm of the NFT artist community. Clubhouse and the NFT community have changed my world.

It's hard to turn down the 24/7 conference call for the Internet, I told Amber in February, going into my third week of spending 8 hrs/day on ClubHouse... Two weeks later, on February 18th, Rare Pizzas was born and now, 3 months after that, we're throwing a global pizza party!

Clubhouse came along with meaningful connections, impromptu gatherings, and magical moments. It gave us an opportunity to converse and listen to varying opinions and thoughts. It exposed us to various topics outside of the noise of what media and social channels were pushing us. It gave us the autonomy to choose our own paths and to certainly carve our own. It gave us access to people we may have never had access to in real life. It did so in a way that levelled the playing field in our ability to contribute and curate our own experiences. It allowed me to flex my mod skills and challenged me to create value for a new audience. It brought to life connection, collaboration, and community in one place. It gave space to a weary audience to connect without a screen or the demands of video as an obstacle to opt-in. It gave us an opportunity to experience the magic again in the random, unexpected moments of human connection.

So I had already heard of Clubhouse when I got invited and joined March 18th around the same time that I was getting into NFTs, just searching for NFT rooms.  And then eventually got familiar with the people in these rooms and began buying their NFTs.  I love to hear the stories about people making art and hearing what is behind the pieces that they’re making.  I’ve seen people go from nothing to very high up in ranking/sales.  You even meet famous people in clubhouse rooms.  You really meet people from every walk of life, from all countries.  I really like it!

I’ve been in Crypto for three years.  And after losing quite a lot of money I found some strategies which made me quite a lot more money. And I’ve recently started spending a lot of this money on NFTs.  Lately, I’ve been into the Bored Ape Yacht Club - I bought 23 Apes and now, after selling some for a profit, I still have 19 Apes I’m currently holding onto.

So I believe that virtual reality and artificial intelligence are the future.  Also because of NFTs, since maybe you’ve heard of the metaverse?  Where everyone can be digitally online and show their artworks. Despite being in Europe and a bit disconnected from many of the Artists I support in America and around the world, after spending over $30K on NFTs, I have a number of favourites I now support regularly. For instance, I am a fan of Eddie Gangland and came across him through Clubhouse.  Now I’ve bought several of his pieces and am excited to see his new work in the metaverse and beyond.
